Are you planning to go on a trip to Japan? Aside from looking forward to seeing the world famous Mt. Fuji and the cherry blossoms, expect to be treated to sumptuous meals anywhere you go. The Japanese cuisine has gained popularity all over the world. It has a distinct and unique taste and presentation.  

For me, when I think about Japanese food, I immediately think of raw fish, rice, and chopsticks. And if you are like me who does not eat anything raw, this might turn you off right away about eating Japanese dishes. But there is more to Japanese cuisine than these. So, with our impending trip to  Japan, I did my research on what other foods to expect especially ones that I could eat. That is why I can now say that there are a lot of delicious dishes to try when you go there. 

So what can we look forward to eating in Japan? I have listed here some of my favorites. 

First is the California Maki. It is made of sushi rice, cucumber, crabstick, mango, wrapped in nori and topped with sesame seeds. You dip it in soy sauce with wasabi and boom! There is an explosion of flavors in your mouth. 

Second is ramen. This is perfect especially when the weather is hot. Ramen is basically a noodle soup in miso broth and served with toppings of your choice – pork or beef slices, egg, seaweeds, and onions.  

The third is the tempura. It is made of seafood or vegetables covered in batter and deep-fried. Once cooked, you can dip it in a sauce that is made of soy sauce, ginger, and sugar. Shrimp tempura is my personal favorite. 

Lastly, you have to try their curry rice. The Japanese make such good curry sauce. You can choose your meat and the level of spiciness.
